No, maintaining orthodox teaching is very important. From not doing so
we get the mormans and the jehovah witnesses and the christian
scientists and many many other groups. All were started by lone ranger
interpreters of scripture using only themselves as a reference.

There can be many interpretations and such have been offered. But none
conclude that it means that trees have souls and free will. One common
idea is the parable refers to israel.

Nothing, but the newly invented doctrine is not saying this but mixing a
doctrine of pagan animism with a private interpretation without
reference to the orthodox teachings of 2000 years.
